Essential Driver Training: A Training Driver’s Guide to Road Safety
In order to discover how to drive safely, it is crucial for learner car drivers to have the Essential Driver Training (EDT). As per the Graduated Driver Licensing of RSA, it’s required that beginners in training will learn the fundamentals of driving skills so EDT is now incorporated into their scheme. New drivers will develop safe road driving skills through this training that’s the reason why it is now needed to do this training.
For you to become a responsible driver, you need to get extensive training with a lot of practice. Part of the learning process is the completion of EDT.
Why do I need EDT Lessons?
Studies show that young drivers and inexperienced drivers are more likely to pass away or be seriously injured in collisions, and EDT is one of several measures introduced by the RSA to help improve critical driving knowledge, abilities and behaviors of new drivers.
Finishing all EDT lessons is already a prerequisite for your full driving test if your first B category (Car) learner permit was issued on or after April 4, 2011.
What does EDT involve?
The progress you made throughout the lessons will be recorded on a specialised logbook by the Approved Driving Instructor (ADI).
You also need to practice driving outside of lessons that’s why you should also have a Sponsor, anybody who is an experienced driver who will guide you in your practice driving and will also track down your development in your logbook.
Things you know through EDT
A syllabus is provided to those who registered in the EDT, which you must read in advance. This is because each and every lesson has its own objective. By reading the syllabus in advance, you’ll have an idea how to prepare for it.
